As anticipated, competition was intense at the 16th edition of the World Offshore Team Racing Championships, hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.
Milan, 24 June 2008 - As anticipated, competition was intense at the 16th edition of the World Offshore Team Racing Championships, hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Overall, it was Team Spain in first place at the Sardinia Rolex Cup, followed by Teams Italy and Germany, following on five demanding days of racing for the teams that were comprised of a Farr 40, Swan 45 and Transpac 52.
DSK-Comifin, Danilo Sailsi’s Swan 45 (a member of Team Italy) was second among the Swan 45s just behind Marco Salvi’s Swan 45 Vertigo. “We were pleased with our performance,” said owner and helmsman Danilo Salsi. “We had hoped to win, however, I congratulate Vertigo and Team Spain on winning the title.”
Team Italy’s Farr 40 Mascalzone Latino, owned by three time world champion Vincenzo Onorato, yet again came out in front of the competition, with two bullets, five second place finishes and one third. Combined with the results of Riccardo Simoneschi’s Audi powered by Q8 which placed third overall among the TP52, Team Italy was 11 points overall behind event winners Team Spain.
The next event for the DSK Sailing Team is the Copa del Rey which takes place from 27 July to 2 August in Palma (ESP).
